Re: Ryerson Review of Journalism recognizes WordPress blogger VoiceofCanada.ca for land claim occupation coverage
Just thought you’d like to know that the founders of CANACE (Canadian Advocates for Charter Equality www.canace.ca) were recently recognized by the prestigious Ryerson Review of Journalism (Cdn journalism school) for our role in providing news coverage when the media failed to cover the Caledonia land claim crisis in Southern Ontario up here in the Great White North.

The Brantford Expositor today published a lengthy letter to the editor by CANACE Executive Director Gary McHale regarding the attempt by the TRUE (Two Row Through Understanding & Education) group to blame media coverage for the poor image of native extremists in the area.

In recent weeks both VoC and CANACE have been highly critical of members of Haldimand Council for their refusal to attend CANACE presentations and events while three councillors sat in on the presentation of a bizarre plan by the Haldimand Tract Good Neighbours Coalition to transfer taxpayers’ municipal dollars to appease the HDI extortionists who have been devastating Haldimand and Brantford with illegal occupations and demands for money and land title deeds.
Last Monday, however, the snubs finally stopped when Mayor Marie Trainer and Councillor Leroy Bartlett stayed for the entire CANACE presentation at the Cayuga Lions Hall to learn about the research revealed in our report, ‘Legalized MYTHS of Illegal Occupations,’ and an update on how we are using private prosecutions to do the OPP’s job for them in charging those involved in illegal occupations.

DustmyBroom.com, July 25/08: Ryerson Review of Journalism Praises Bloggers, Slams MSM for Caledonia coverage
——————————
I am pleased to say that the prestigious Ryerson Review of Journalism has recognized VoiceofCanada and CaledoniaWakeUpCall as valuable sources of information for Caledonia residents.
Mark Vandermaas and Gary McHale were both interviewed in late 2007 for the Summer 2008 issue which hit news stands yesterday and is distributed to journalism schools across Canada.
In her article, ‘Disputed Land, Failed Coverage,’ Emerald Austerberry examined the coverage of the Caledonia crisis by local media outlets such as The Sachem, Dunnville Chronicle, The Regional, The Tekawennake News, Ancaster News and the Haldimand Press.

Canadian justice is NOT for sale!
Are you starting to get the message yet Julian, Dalton, Mike? We will do whatever it takes to peacefully and legally ensure that race-based policing ends in Ontario. You will NOT be allowed to trample on the rights of non-natives as you destroy the rule of law in our country.
Give us a call when you’re ready to talk.

Swastika painted on Jim Smith's Caledonia home.
A reader with native members in his immediate family who has personally suffered at the hands of native lawlessness in Caledonia poses a question that seems to be on a lot of people’s minds after the attacks on Brantford Police and subsequent threats against the city made by Steve Powless when one of his goons was arrested:
Should we call in the Canadian Forces?
Is Six Nations going to hire the Mohawk warriors?
If so learn from Oka, Ipperwash & Caledonia call in the ARMY!!!
Jim Smith
VoC REPLY: Hi Jim. I appreciate your sentiments. I think if the police just do their jobs and arrest those committing or encouraging the crimes, the incentive to commit them will disappear. Law abiding native people will also breathe a huge sigh of relief; we’re hearing reports about how embarassed and concerned they are about the sociopaths in their community following the latest attacks on police and threats against Brantford.

Less than one day after CANACE released three hardhitting editorials criticizing the harebrained plan by Brantford developers and their ‘Haldimand Tract Good Neighbours Coalition’ to sell out the rule of law in Canada, the thugs who were to benefit from the scheme demonstrated, for all to see, the mindnumbing folly of the plan to ask municipalities to pay native extortionists with taxpayers’ money.

CANACE released three editorials yesterday to aggressively counter an attempt by a coalition of Brantford builders called the Haldimand Tract Good Neighbours Coalition to sell out Canadian justice by urging municipalities to turn over taxpayer’s monies to the Haudenosaunee Development Institute (HDI), an organization that has shut down development sites in Hagersville, Cayuga and Brantford with intimidation and illegal occupations.
The HDI has been accused of extortion by both MPP Toby Barrett and MPP Bob Runciman:

3 CANACE founders were included in this masterpiece capturing the essence of the Caledonia crisis. Merlyn Kinrade is at top left of maple leaf facing away from Canadian flag.
UPDATED 2023 EST July 13/08
CANACE’s Caledonia Liaison Merlyn Kinrade was feeling both creative and optimistic thanks to CANACE’s accomplishments in its struggle to end race-based policing and landclaim lawlessness, and decided to turn his thoughts into the following poem:
‘Ode to CANACE’
Merlyn, Mark, Jeff and Gary
On their backs they continue to carry
Fantino, Dalton and Mr. Bryant
These three amigos couldn’t be silent
They continued with their slanderous rant
But the CANACE founders said, You can’t!
Slander us at your peril if you will
We’ll make your scam seem all uphill
Two tier justice can never work
So Mr. Fantino don’t be a jerk
Instruct your officers one and all
To make arrests without the race call
For if you choose wrong over right
CANACE members will continue the fight
Law and order must prevail
Or democracy will surely fail

Merlyn has been nothing short of an unmoveable rock in speaking and acting for the best interests of Caledonia and all victims of landclaim lawlessness in Ontario. One day his town will recognize the tremendous debt they owe to him.

In an editorial published today (July 11/08), the Brantford Expositor grudging admitted that Gary McHale, Executive Director of CANACE, is making a difference in pushing the perpetrators of land claim occupations into the court via private prosecutions.
“When we see McHale has been up to something, we normally reach for an 11-foot pole. However, we admit McHale has accomplished something by laying private charges against Floyd and Ruby Montour.”
“McHale is filling a vauum. Although the OPP has been investigating, no charges have resulted.”
“Do the Montours (or anyone else) have the right to shut down development to enforce demands from HDI? It’s time to involve a judge. Of course, the judge would need the wisdom of Solomon. If the charges are upheld, the Montours will say the justice system isn’t fair to natives. If the charges fail, McHale will say the courts are too lenient. All the same, it will be good to clear the air.”

One of the most important legal decisions in Ontario’s history with respect to ending landclaim lawlessness was released today in a Cayuga courtroom by Justice of the Peace Dan M. MacDonald when he announced that summons for Floyd and Ruby Montour were to be issued so that they can face criminal charges in connection with their occupation of construction sites in Cayuga and Hagersville.
Today is a landmark day in the struggle to end race-based policing in Ontario. Remember July 08, 2008, for this is the day that ordinary citizens, led by CANACE Executive Director Gary McHale – against overwhelming odds – stood up proudly and defiantly to wrest responsibility for preserving Canadian values such as the rule of law and equality before the law away from corrupt politicians and police until they are once more worthy of being entrusted with it.

“I am offended by the actions of Inspector McLean.”
Judge Marshall, July 04/08
McHale judicial review
Ontario Superior Court, Cayuga, ON
In my previous post, McHale gives Crown bad headache, I explained that Gary McHale’s pre-trial court session regarding the charge against him that took place in Hamilton on July 02/08 did not go very well for the Crown.
I am pleased to advise that Gary McHale won another victory today during a judicial review in a Cayuga courtroom when Judge Marshall (yes, THAT Marshall) agreed with McHale that Justice McDonald erred during McHale’s Bail Variation hearing in Dec 07 once OPP Inspector McLean refused to appear.

1. Gary McHale was at one of his many court appearances over the past few months. This one was a pre-trial session for the charge against him – Counselling Mischief. Now, I can’t repeat what went on during the day, but I can say that it was most definitely NOT a good day for the Crown for many reasons.
