About Salim Mansur
Dr. Salim Mansur is an internationally-known political scientist who teaches at Western University (formerly University of Western Ontario) and is an accomplished author, speaker, columnist who often writes, with singular clarity, about Middle Eastern issues and Islamic extremism. He himself is a Muslim who has expressed great admiration for Israel.
Dr. Mansur is an immigrant from India who slowly came to the conclusion that the Canada that welcomed him has lost its way, that we have abandoned our historical liberal values of equality and respect for the individual in favour of the mantra of identity politics otherwise known as ‘multi-culturalism’ - hence the title of his new book: DELECTABLE LIE: A Liberal Repudiation of Multiculturalism.
“My point is that although multiculturalism once seemed a very good idea, at least to politicians and others smitten with the ambition for unity, it is increasingly shown to be a lie ─ a delectable lie, perhaps, yet a lie nevertheless ─ that is destructive of the West’s liberal democratic heritage, tradition, and values based on individual rights and freedoms.
– Dr. Salim Mansur, DELECTABLE LIE: A Liberal Repudiation of Multiculturalism
I have had the pleasure of meeting Salim and attending his talks on several occasions, including two of his book launch events in London and Toronto (see slide show below). I’m about half-way through DELECTABLE LIE; it is the authoritative reference on the history of multiculturalism ideology and its ‘delectable’ lies, and it belongs on the shelf of anyone who’s ever suspected that they were sold a bill of goods about the meaning of multiculturalism.
I naively thought multiculturalism meant that Canada was merely welcoming others to share our values of equality and justice before the law as well as our respect for the rule of law as part of a ‘multi-ethnic’ country. I did not realize, for example, that it meant one day the Ontario Court of Appeal would rule that the rights of an accused to face his accuser would be trumped by the ‘right’ of a Muslim women to testify against him while veiled, and that men, including male judges, could be excluded from the courtroom. I’m sure few Canadians did.
We were, indeed, all sold a dangerous, delectable, lie.
I urge you not to miss the opportunity to listen to the words of this brilliant, yet humble intellectual giant who reminds us of the importance of jealously defending the values we should never have taken for granted. For those who do attend I feel safe in assuring that you will agree afterwards it was an honour just to stand in the same room with this great Canadian immigrant patriot.
The Canadian organization and gutsy publisher that made DELECTABLE LIE possible
Despite his impeccable credentials as a leading political science author and lecturer, Dr. Mansur was unable to find a mainstream Canadian publisher for his important contribution to the badly needed debate on multiculturalism! It was left to the International Free Press Society and a small publishing house – Mantua Books – to make possible this groundbreaking work of research and analysis.
“In sponsoring Salim Mansur’s indepth analysis of multiculturalism and his repudiation of it based on liberal values, IFPS-Canada hopes that Canadians will begin to feel comfortable sharing their own concerns and will be inspired to assert their right to speak freely. At the very least, Canadians must be encouraged to reject the politically correct notion that official multiculturalism is a sacred cow that cannot be subjected to legitimate and healthy criticism.”
