UPDATE (Oct 30/06): I have received information from two separate sources that the deportation of Steve X has been stopped, and that he can now remain in Canada. Thank you for your assistance in stopping this abuse of power.
I have today been informed that Ontario Provincial Police and Immigration officers have joined forces to try to deport the brother of AnnMarie Vansickle, one of the two courageous women who spoke out against the OPP and Ontario Premier, Dalton McGuinty, on behalf of Caledonians at the March for Freedom, October 15th. Apparently, he has been given 7 days to leave Canada. I am so ashamed of my country today.
PLEASE: Read the email below sent to me from Gary McHale and then contact your MP to tell them to stop this outrageous assault on free speech and common decency. If you live in Ontario, also contact your MPP. DO IT NOW!

UPDATE: I received a message from Steve last night (Oct 19/06) asking me to remove his last name from this post because, as he said, “I am trying to get legal advice and don’t want my family hurt in the process.” If you are a journalist or political leader wishing to reach Steve, please contact Gary McHale for assistance.

Subject: From a resident of BreamarEmail sent to me today and to various political leaders from a resident of Braemar.
Further to this, one of the residents of Braemar Ave and the brother of Anne Marie Vansickle (one of the speakers at the Caledonia rally), Steve xxxxx was arrested last night by OPP and Immigration officers…
Steve was informed that his currently validated Visa good until February, 2008 was being immediately revoked for undisclosed reasons and that he had 7 days to get out of the country, they then seized his passport (which is the only proof he has of the valid Visa) and released him….
Steve xxxxx is a working and contributing member of this community, his only claim to fame is that he has been a very harsh critic of the OPP and the role they have been playing or not playing as the case may be in the Caledonia Crisis….
This criticism has apparently served to make Steve xxxxx persona-non-grata in the country of Canada no less!!!!
Steve has committed no crime, he is employed, he is residing with family and is not a drain on any system we have in fact he contributes into the systems that we all enjoy. It would appear however that because Steve Reilly has stood up when he has seen injustices and spoken out harshly against the OPP in particular he has become someone to be ejected from this country. It would appear that after a blood stirring and emotional speech by his sister Anne Marie which leveled harsh and deserved criticism against the OPP, the Provincial Government (McGuinty in particular), and the Federal Government that her brother Steve who is not yet a citizen of this highly touted “great country” became so much of a liability an unwanted presence that he much be removed from the country….
This is not even a thinly veiled attempt to hide the motivations of this action, it is quite simply a personal disgrace and dishonour for this country and it’s ideals. I hold the parties responsible for this blatant intimidation and hijacking of the inherent RIGHT of free speech in nothing short of utter contempt. This is a shameful act motivated by a selfish and cowardly attempt to remove any type of light shone into the recesses of the ongoing shame that is Caledonia.
UPDATE: I just got off the phone with the London constituency office for my MPP, Deborah Matthews (London North Centre), and asked her assistant to pass on my request that Ms. Matthews take a leadership role in correcting this outrage. I also offered to publish any comments she wished to make. If you live in London, give her office a call at 519.432.7339.
My federal riding doesn’t have an MP since Joe Fontana stepped down, so I left a message at Irene Mathyssen’s (London-Fanshawe) constituency office with a similar message. I have also emailed MPP Tim Hudak’s (Erie-Lincoln) office re this post. You may recall that Mr. Hudak was the first politician to speak out against the government’s hypocrisy in trying to silence Gary McHale while criminals do whatever they want on the stolen land.
UPDATE: Irene Matthessen’s office contacted me to advise that they were informing her of the situation, but that she was very busy with housing issues, so they recommended that I contact the NDP justice critic, Mr. Joe Comartin (Windsor-Tecumseh) which I did. His constituency office is 519.988.1826.
UPDATE: Ms. Matthessen’s office also advised me to contact Ms. Jean Crowder, MP for Nanaimo-Cowichan since she is the NDP’s critic for aboriginal affairs. I just sent her the following email:
Jean Crowder, MP
1. I was referred to you by Irene Matthessen’s (London-Fanshawe) constituency office. They thought
that you may be interested in this story as the NDP critic for Aboriginal Affairs:
Ontario Provincial Police and Immigration officers have joined forces to try to deport the brother of AnnMarie VanSickle, one of the two courageous women who spoke out against the OPP and Ontario Premier McGuinty on behalf of Caledonia at the March for Freedom, October 15th.
2. Voice of Canada has issued an urgent appeal to the public for help in stopping this abuse of power. It can be seen at www.voiceofcanada.ca.
3. I would be very grateful if you and Mr. Joe Comartin – whom I have also contacted – would take
the lead in exposing this most sleazy attempt to retaliate against a brave women who chose to exercise her right to criticize her leaders.
4. I would be pleased to publish your comments at VoiceofCanada.ca with respect to this issue.
