Freedom Party of Ontario bestows ‘Free Speech Award’ on Mary Lou Ambrogio; praises Caledonia activists

The week beginning Saturday, April 21, 2012 was surely one of curious contrasts for Caledonia rule-of-law activists…

In the evening, I was honoured to be a guest speaker and presenter at the post-election dinner meeting for the Freedom Party of Ontario where executive members Bob Metz, Robert Vaughan, and leader Paul McKeever explained why the NDP, Liberals and Hudak PCs are all nearly-identical ‘red’ parties more interested in promoting ‘wealth distribution’ than in promoting wealth creation and protecting liberty.

On the way home my very apolitical wife said, ‘The penny dropped after listening to the speeches. Now I understand the difference between the parties.’

Vandermaas email to OPP officer re April 21 DCE rally before two ‘breach of peace’ arrests

120421 Sign carried by Mark Vandermaas & other anti-violence/racism protesters onto occupied Douglas Creek Estates, CaledoniaOn April 18/12 an officer from the plain-clothed OPP ‘Provincial Liaison Team’ sent me an email politely inquiring as to what day we would be holding our planned march onto the Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia. Gary McHale had refused to disclose the information, and she was hoping I would. I wrote back to her on April 19 explaining why I would not do so. The email is below. But, before we get there…

Mark Vandermaas – arrested for being the victim of an assault by a native radical

Keep in mind while reading my message to her that just two days later, on April 21/12, she and her OPP partner (wearing blue/black jackets in photo below) would watch a native occupier (red hat, sunglasses, dark coat) chase after me and assault me by blocking my path and chest-butting me as I carried a sign saying ‘HEALING BEGINS WITH APOLOGIES.’

David Strutt photos: Caledonia 8 make history on Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia

Welcome to DCE 120218Professional photographer and graphic artist David Strutt drove from his home north of Toronto to be with members of the ‘Caledonia 8’ and our supporters on Feb 18/12 when we became the first non-natives since Feb 28/06 to walk onto the Douglas Creek Estates with United Nations and Canadian flags without asking permission from the native occupiers who terrorized Caledonia while the province’s police and Liberal government ran interference for them, and bought the site so they could remain after a judge ordered their eviction.

Strutt is also the gifted cartoonist/artist who has created the editorial cartoons found recently here on VoiceofCanada, and was a Freedom Party candidate in the last provincial election.

Read an interpretation of Davids photos below…

David captured the deflated faces of the occupiers, etched with the dawning realization that somehow, everything had changed for them in one day. ‘One day’ that took five years for a patient, determined McHale to bring about.

McHale arrested in Caledonia because Native man assaults 77 yr old former Navy vet/UN peacekeeper & OPP officers

LAST UPDATED Feb 28/12

Only in Caledonia.

VoiceofCanada, Feb 06/12: David Strutt cartoon: new logo for ‘ONTARIO PARTISAN POLICE’Only in Caledonia do the police let the native thugs who attack their officers and peaceful non-native people (one of whom happens to be an elderly, cancer-ridden veteran of the Canadian Navy and a UN peacekeeping mission) go free, and arrest the peaceful leader of the non-natives for standing quietly on a county road. You just can’t make this stuff up.

Today seven of the Caledonia Eight, along with a number of Caledonia residents, supporters and spouses, did what no one has done since Feb 28/06 when the occupation there began. We walked through the gates of the Douglas Creek Estates, down the county road that runs through it, to within 100 feet or so of the only house on the site.

The visit was a surprise for the occupiers and police, who were warned shortly before we left the Lions Hall in Caledonia to drive to the site.

120218 History made as OPP arrest native on DCE; 1st arrest ever during commission of crime. PHOTO BY CHRISTINE MCHALEAlthough history was made today by both the visit itself into Dalton McGuinty’s forbidden no-go zone via the county road that runs through the site; and by the first-ever arrest of a native person during the commission of a crime (an assault on Gary McHale), we clearly demonstrated once again that racial policing is very much alive.

The OPP arrested Gary McHale for the sixth time because a native man assaulted OPP officers and 77 year old Navy war veteran & UN peacekeeper Merlyn Kinrade who was wearing his blue beret and holding a UN flag.

Sadly, he also happens to be suffering from cancer. It happened right beside me. The police let the attacker go, and then arrested the non-native — Gary McHale — because he refused to leave because he wasn’t doing anything illegal. Why the arrest then? Because, according to the police, it was Gary McHale – one of the 120218 OPP ask Caledonia 8 to leave DCE even though things are quiet after arrest of native woman. Caledonia 8 members (L-R): Mark Vandermaas (blue beret), Gary McHale, Merlyn Kinrade (holding UN flag)peaceful non-native victims of an earlier assault – who was inciting a breach of the peace.

One observer who has never attended one of our protests sent me this comment:

“I’m still trying to get it through my head that Gary was arrested in order to stop the natives from continuing to break the law. This is just ludicrous.” Continue reading

Dear Prime Minister Harper and Premier McGuinty:

I am a law-abiding citizen and have never had any reason to give much thought to policing in Canada. I took it for granted that everyone was treated fairly, according to the same laws applied in the same way for everyone. Our police, I assumed, are well-paid and professional in carrying out their duties. I also assumed that there was a fire-wall between the politicians and the police.

Recent events in the past several years in Caledonia have shaken my complacency because in Caledonia the law has become a political matter rather than a policing matter. Some people have become the untouchables (the native community) regardless of their behaviour, lawlessness, displays of violence and objectives. Taxpayer money has gone into a huge appeasement package that will encourage more of this type of “occupation” of land that is really no longer in dispute because settlements and restitution has been made in the distant past and there is a statute of limitations on land claims that must be considered as part of any big picture. New targets are now being pursued by the native community (like in the Dundas Valley Conservation Area). These urban green spaces are being claimed as hunting grounds now precisely because the pursuit of racial policing has set a disruptive and dangerous precedent in Caledonia.

Caledonia has some new friends: Ezra Levant & SUN News TV

UPDATED May 08/11 — Sun News-ezralevantGary McHale appeared on Ezra Levant’s show on the SUN News network this evening and it was clear that Caledonia had found some new – and very powerful – friends.

After putting MP Randy Hillier on the spot by lambasting Tim Hudak’s backtracking on his commitment to eliminate Ontario’s human rights tribunal to put an end to frivolous and abusive prosecutions (Levant was once prosecuted, er persecuted,by the Alberta Human Rights Commission for hate speech himself after publishing the infamous Mohammed cartoons at the Western Standard) he then spent about 12 minutes interviewing McHale. Levant finished with a promise to have McHale back many more times, recognizing that their first interview had “just scratched the surface.”

Hat tip to Blazing Cat Fur and ‘sdamatt2’ for getting the story & video out so quickly.

Levant/Sun News willingness to hold Conservatives accountable is good news!

knight-w-sword.jpgAs much as I was pleased at seeing my longtime associate appear with Canada’s leading conservative advocate for free speech to talk about Caledonia, I was just as gratified to see that the SUN News network is not planning on being a cheerleader or apologist for wimpy, backsliding, spineless Conservative politicians any more than it is for the left-leaning iteration. Watch and enjoy:

VIDEO: Native occupiers ‘respectfully’ destroy and burn Reconciliation/Apology monument & Cdn flag in Caledonia

March 27/11 - Native occupiers of Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia burn our Truth & Reconciliation/Apology monument and our Canadian flag within minutes of attacking us - all while OPP officers watchedIn my last article I posted photos showing how OPP officers stood by and watched on March 27/11 as we were swarmed by native thugs from the occupied Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia who stole our Reconciliation/Apology monument; kicked it into the road; smashed holes in the sides; inserted Six Nations flags; then carried it off to be burnt along with our Canadian – all while OPP officers watched.

Jeff Parkinson caught the action on video which has now been posted. Watch as a woman in a rage attacks the monument and then kicks and drags the base into the road where a plainclothes OPP officer from the Provincial Liaison Team then pulls it off to the side of the road before it gets carried off to be burnt.

OPP watch as natives destroy Reconciliation/Apology monument, then burn Canadian flag

UPDATED: Caledonia Victims Project, June 20/11: Caledonia Milestone: DCE occupiers & OPP respsect rights of non-natives during Truth & Reconciliation Rally

UPDATED April 03/11: Video of attack on Reconciliation/Apology monument

March 27/11 - Native occupiers of Douglas Creek Estates in Caledonia burn our Truth & Reconciliation/Apology monument and our Canadian flag within minutes of attacking us - all while OPP officers watched

Our recent Truth and Reconciliation rally held on Sunday, March 27/11 proves that the OPP still – after five years – will not protect the rights or property of non-natives in Caledonia.

OPP officers watched as the Douglas Creek Estates occupiers swarmed and assaulted us, destroyed and stole our Truth & Reconciliation/Apology monument, and then burnt it along with our Canadian flag. The clearly visible side, partially obscured by the flag, says ‘ONTARIO APOLOGY.’ The side barely visible in the flames, says, ‘EQUALITY FOR ALL.’ The other two sides facing away from the camera say, ‘6N (SIX NATIONS) APOLOGY’ and, ‘OPP APOLOGY.’

Canadian Civil Liberties Association closes door on Caledonia civil rights abuses

UPDATE: TorSun founder Peter Worthington comments re CCLA lack of interest in Caledonia abuses in ‘Why is G20 outrageous and Caledonia is not?
————–

Crying - ashamedIn reply to a joint request by CANACE and the Caledonia Victims Project, the Canadian Civil Liberties (CCLA) has, once again, refused to even consider meeting to discuss the civil rights abuses in Caledonia, and has made it clear it has no intention of addressing the issue at all.

Here are our most recent communications with the CCLA, followed by a complete list of references of our unsuccessful attempts to persuade the CCLA to assist Caledonia’s victims…

Dear CCLA:

Beginning in early 2007 I contacted your office on a number of occasions seeking your assistance with the civil rights abuses in Caledonia associated with racial policing practices of the OPP, but you were, unfortunately, unable to assist us at that time.

As you undoubtedly know, award-winning author Christie Blatchford’s 2010 book, Helpless: Caledonia’s Nightmare of Fear and Anarchy, And How The Law Failed All of Us, has completely vindicated allegations that the Ontario Provincial Police were following orders not to enforce the rule of law in Caledonia and were, indeed, conducting policing by race to the utter detriment of non-native citizens with no lawful authority.

You may not be aware, however, that a significant amount of the evidence and background for the book was provided by us, and that Mr. McHale and his wife received an acknowledgement in the book for their assistance to the author.

Blatchford’s February 28, 2011 article in Globe, ‘For sheer abuse of state power nothing touches Caledonia,’ [LINK] opens with some frank criticism of the CCLA’s deafening silence on Caledonia’s police abuses:

How fitting that the report of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association on the policing of the G20 should be released on the fifth anniversary of the native occupation in Caledonia, Ont.

The same organization now screaming for a full-scale public inquiry into alleged abuses – particularly, the troubling breach-of-the-peace arrest authority used over that June weekend – was and continues to be absolutely silent about similar and worse abuses that occurred in the small town just south of Hamilton, just a few klicks from the Six Nations reserve.

We have worked alone, on a full time volunteer basis, with no financial or public support from NGOs for nearly 5 years – exposing and opposing the terrible race-based policing that caused so much misery in Caledonia, and we would be grateful for your interest now that you have additional resources available of the type you were able to mobilize for the G20, a very worthwhile endeavour indeed.

JOINT NEWS RELEASE: McGuinty targets non-natives for arrest

Joint Press Release by CANACE and Caledonia Victims Project – Feb 25, 2011

McGuinty Targets McHale’s Group for Arrest [PDF]

090712 THE END OF THE BEGINNING! Final flag victory CaledoniaIn a recent meeting with the OPP regarding the Truth and Reconciliation Rally this Sunday in Caledonia at 1 pm outside the Caledonia Lion’s Hall, Gary McHale was informed that the OPP have received instructions to arrest any member of McHale’s group who walks onto DCE. This is at the request of the property owner which is Dalton McGuinty.

The Ontario Government wrote a letter to Supt. Cain yesterday to instruct him to enforce the law. However, the letter also instructed the OPP that the Native Occupiers and their associates were permitted to use DCE.

The Outside Interlopers are Watching, by Gary McHale

eye-keyhole image by IFPS-Canada: www.ifpscanada.comOriginally published in the Caledonia Regional News on Feb 23, 2011.

If every single person in Haldimand were to sign a petition and join a rally against the injustice that occurred the Ontario Government wouldn’t care as long as those outside Haldimand didn’t hear about it. With 107 seats in the province and Haldimand being a strong conservative riding a Liberal Government doesn’t care how much noise you make as long as no one is listening.

However, outside interlopers are listening – tens of thousands have read Christie Blatchford’s book, read the media reviews of the book, watched the news reports for five years and viewed dozens of videos posted on the internet. While the government policies that created the injustice remain, the government’s ability to control the message, to silence or bully people into submission has come to an end.

For example, take the recent story printed in the Toronto Sun (a newspaper that virtually had no stories on Caledonia in 2006-07) by Peter Worthington titled ‘Truth and its consequences’ which was reprinted in the London and Brantford newspapers. The story was then circulated around the world via the International Free Press Society, which will have a representative speak at our rally this Sunday, and was covered in Europe as well as in Israel.

For the first time major media has accepted the view that the struggle in Caledonia is part of a greater global civil rights movement against political correctness run amok. Worthington has seen that Caledonia represents something far greater than local Ontario politics. Of particular importance is how Worthington links the civil rights struggle of the 50-60s to the issues of Caledonia.

NOTE: the use of the word ‘interlopers’ is a direct reference to former OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino who repeatedly denigrated non-native rule of law activists from outside Caledonia as ‘interlopers’ while remaining silent about all the natives who came from outside Caledonia to help terrorize the town. The term has special meaning to readers of the original, hard copy edition of the Regional News which is distributed to every home in Haldimand County. The paper does not publish an online edition.

Dear Santa Claus: You come at me with all these allegations and I’m going to come right back at you. I call it the Hitler Theory, in that it’s my theory that you are worse than Hitler. Yours in dismay, Master Julian Fantino

P.S. I made the dog lick all three of the cookies I left for you.”

Dear Justin Trudeau…

Justin Trudeau, Member of Parliament
Liberal Party of Canada

Re: Julian Fantino and the application of his ‘Hitler Theory’ in Caledonia

Dear Mr. Trudeau:

Firstly, thank you so very much for your video statement during the recent campaign pointing out the utter lack of respect Julian Fantino has expressed for the Charter of Rights. Your words were historic in that it was the first time a Member of Parliament has challenged Fantino on his stated beliefs on the topic. Thanks also to the Liberal Party for holding the government accountable for its newly-found support for Julian Fantino in light of Diane Finley’s signature on the anti-Fantino petition. As a long time Conservative Party supporter (member of Reform under Manning) I can’t begin to tell you how mixed are my emotions to watch Liberals begin to hold the supposed ‘law & order’ party accountable for failing the Charter and Caledonia:

‘The Hitler Theory in Practice: Caledonia’s Nightmare of Fear and Anarchy’:

Fantino is quoted in a recent Globe & Mail article as saying this about your criticism:

“I mean these are serious, serious issues and I found it quite distressing really that Justin Trudeau would be trotted out to misrepresent what I said and take it out of context. It was an Academy Award performance.”

CBC documentary: Fantino’s stmts vs. innocent man blamed in 2004 suicide

James LeCraw- committed suicide July 19, 2004. Claimed in his suicide note that Julian Fantino's public statements falsely accusing him of involvement in child pornography ruined his life. [All photos from CBC source article; click image to view]

“You may want to seriously consider a wrongful death suit, or whatever it would be called against the police and Fantino,” wrote James. “You know the complaint: Their reckless irresponsible media release destroyed my life. They should be held responsible for compensation. Also they should have to change their and all police department media ways so that others don’t get caught up in this crap.”

“On July 19, 2004, James drove to a country road, about 10 kilometres from his brother’s home in Newmarket, north of Toronto. He put a charcoal barbecue on the seat beside him and lit it. James died of carbon monoxide poisoning from the fumes.”

Earlier this morning VoiceofCanada editor/ConservativesAgainstFantino.ca co-founder Mark Vandermaas was tipped off to a tragic 2004 story about the suicide of an innocent man wrongly accused of being involved in a child porn by Julian Fantino and the Toronto police, both of whom were by blamed by James LeCraw in his suicide note for his ruined life.

He was directed by the source to a website called InjusticeBusters.com where we found LeCraw’s terrible story told via quotes from a Globe and Mail editorial and an 11-part CBC documentary produced by Kellie Hudson entitled, Weighing the Balance (also referred to as ‘Shamed and Named‘ in the link structure on the Thunder Bay CBC site where we located a copy of the award-winning series).

CANACE video – Blatchford on Caledonia and targeting of McHale by “prime minister’s new best friend”

Christie Blatchford, Chedoke Presbyterian church, Nov 16/10, Hamilton, ON

Christie Blatchford, Chedoke Presbyterian church, Nov 16/10, Hamilton, ON

Jeff Parkinson, co-founder of Canadian Advocates for Charter Equality (CANACE), has released a short video containing highlights from Christie Blatchford’s speech to a packed crowd at  Chedoke Presbyterian Church in Hamilton, Ontario on Nov 16/10.

In addition to commenting on the “national disgrace” of  the lawlessness OPP officers refused to stop, she decries the targeting of Gary McHale by Julian Fantino:

“Fantino’s extraordinary campaign to hunt down and have arrested a man named Gary McHale – who is here tonight, too – culminated in the OPP boss writing a letter of support for a native man who had assaulted McHale was probably un-precedented and was deeply disturbing. Consider how furious women would be if the justice system reverted to the days of old when a rapist should defend himself by saying, ‘Geez your Honour, she was wearing these high boots and a short skirt.’ Thats the equivalent of what Fantino did. He wrote a letter to the court in support of the man who pleaded guilty of punching McHale and said McHale had been asking for it.

3 Questions for London mayoral candidates re Mark Steyn cancellation by London Convention Centre

UPDATE: As of 1500 Oct 25/10 – Election Day – neither mayoral candidate has responded to the 3 questions herein.

Anne Marie DeCicco-Best - London mayoral incumbentThe issues associated with a city-owned venue restricting the Charter rights of non-Muslims who want to bring in a speaker for a lawful speech are serious ones so, as a London resident, I felt the two leading contenders for the city’s Mayor’s chair should have a chance to make their positions known about the London Convention Centre’s refusal to rent a room for Strictly Right’s presentation of Mark Steyn (see References below).

Joe Fontana - London mayoral candidateI sent the email below containing three questions to Joe Fontana and Anne Marie DeCicco-Best (incumbent), and then followed up with a phone call to ensure the message didn’t get lost in a spam file.

Subject: Q for candidates re LCC refusal to rent room for Mark Steyn event

Dear Ms. DeCicco-Best and Mr. Fontana:

I am a London resident (371 Vesta Place) and I am the editor of VoiceofCanada.ca.

As you may be aware, the London Convention Centre recently refused to rent a room to Mr. Andrew Lawton and his organization Strictly Right for a speech by internationally-known author and commentator Mark Steyn.
